Helping Advance Literacy
When an individual has reading resources their live is enhanced in countless way.

The New Hope Library celebrated its one year anniversary on October 22. We currently have four librarians and are open Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We average about 50 to 60 children per day during the school year, and upwards of 100 children during the summer.
We have seen a tremendous response in the community. For the first time, it seems that reading is becoming a priority in the communities we serve. Ana Sofia loves the library so much that her mother, Yadira, says that unless she goes to school every day, she cannot go to the library; Ana Sofia has not missed a single day of class.
Another child, 8 year old Naydelin, could barely read a sentence a year ago when she first entered the library. Now, Naydelin eagerly and confidently reads aloud to her friends and actively participates in workshops. Last November we had 65 patrons; this past August we had 665 patrons--and more new faces enter the library each day.
Though children are our main patrons, we have resources for all ages. This year we want to try and pull the adults into the library--even if it's just to read to their child. There is nothing more precious than a mother and her child snuggled on the couch reading together.
The New Hope Library provides workshops for all ages, homework help, ESL classes, computer classes, and a safe haven for community members to escape into their imagination through the world of literature.
Dianne Davis' Tour de Lectura bike ride from Birmingham, Alabama to Piedras Negras is helped raise support for this much needed project.
The library staff recently celebrated Mexico's 200th anniversary of its Independence with the local community. Though the show is in Spanish, you will be able to sense the excitement the community has for this resource in its midst..
